Collage Workshop: „This is Trash“
What if you made art with whatever trash you have? In a city like Berlin, trash and free stuff are everywhere so why not use the supplies at your disposal to see what kind of art you can create? In this “This Is Trash” workshop, artist Marina Manoukian gives you the chance to play with whatever trash you find around you.
In this 2-day workshop, you’ll have the chance to play with all the trash around you. You find the materials first, and then see what might be possible to create. And then, with whatever you have, you’ll learn how to find your own unique eye and be able to create art you never imagined! The most important thing is not to come up with an idea that you want to execute.
Marina will bring found materials for you to use, but your homework before the workshop will be to pick up some trash/found objects/zum verschenken to bring with you.
Marina has been making hand-cut collages for over 10 years under the name crimeiscommon (@crimeiscommon) and all of her supplies come from the streets of Berlin. She doesn’t seek out particular images. She just uses whatever she finds. And you’ll have the chance to do the same!
The workshop will be held in English and will run on June 20 and 21 from 15:00 to 19:00. On June 20, the workshop will focus on working with paper trash and on June 21, the workshop will focus on working with non-paper trash. There is a suggested donation of 5-10 euros to participate in the workshop, but no one will be turned away due to lack of funds. After the workshop, the space will exhibit some of Marina’s collages and you can relax, look at some art, and talk collage with Marina. Some of Marina’s pieces will also be for sale. If you don’t want to participate in the workshop, you’re more than welcome to simply come by to the exhibition afterwards!
Please email marina.manoukian@gmail.com to register for the workshop. Please indicate if you’d like to come to the June 20 session or the June 21 session or both!
